Privacy & Security
Privacy and security are serious matters.
This is what we do:
- We analyze our Web server logs. We primarily use summaries which disclose only the domain name of your ISP, and are aggregated. We cannot identify individual visitors from these reports. For this purpose, we have implemented Google Analytics. Their terms of service specifically prohibit merging data from their reports with personally identifiable information (PII), which we wouldn't do, anyway.
- We may retain your E-Mail and IP addresses if you contact us directly or through the links on our site.
- If you follow a link from our site to Amazon or another commercial site with which we have an agreement, a code is passed along, in the URL, that lets them give us credit for your purchase. This code is a part of the link itself. We do not need to set a cookie on your computer, though they will do so. Any purchase that you make by following such a link will cost you the same as if you had gone directly to the other site. Whatever commissions we may earn from such incidental sales help fund the continuing development of this site.
- If you follow a link from our site to another site, we use a little JavaScript to open the link in a new browser window. This lets you keep a virtual finger on your place in our Web site while you browse the other site.
- If you follow a link that opens a Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat (PDF) document, we use a little JavaScript to open the document in a new browser window. We have found that it is altogether too easy to accidentally terminate your browsing session, and lose your place, when you close a linked Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat (PDF) document.
We do not do any of these things:
- Give or sell your E-Mail address or your IP address to anybody. Your name and address are your property. You gave us permission to use your name and E-Mail address to contact you. We keep your information here; protect it like the valuable asset that it is, and use it only for the purpose for which you gave it to us.
- Bombard you with junk mail in any form, electronic or postal.
- Drop spy programs and other junk on your computer.
- Surreptitiously set long lived cookies in your computer that can be used by other Web sites. If we need to use a cookie, to provide a service that you have requested by activating a clearly labeled link in our site, you will be warned that, if you follow the link, we will store a cookie on your computer. The cookie will be used solely for its intended purpose, and it will go away when it has outlived its usefulness.
- Install or run Java applets or ActiveX controls on your computer.
- Run VBScript or JavaScript in your browser, except to open new browser windows or do other harmless stuff to improve your browsing experience.
